SPRING BUYS: BUDGET VS. LUXURY

March 25, 2015
shopping-10

Its that time of season where we start planning our sartorial choices and trends for the summer months. I tend to stick to styles that I know suit my body shape, but there are a few things tempting me, initially out of my comfort zone (the denim flare being one of them). In terms of my spring buys; I am forever hunting for the classic, yet feminine, black leather brogues, the perfect fitted silk bomber, a classic stripy jumper, a minimal tan satchel, the sexy wrap skirt, polarised cat-eye sunnies (so chic), and you can never have enough LBD’s – right?

What’s on your wish list for spring?

WEEKEND LOOK

March 23, 2015

Vero Moda Jacket (similar here) / Cheap Monday Jeans / J.Crew Jumper (similar here) / Triwa Sunglasses / Lulu Guiness Bag / Adidas Trainers / Bijoux by Desi F Necklace

Happy Monday! Hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend wherever you were. I took some time out to visit relatives up north – and the weather was (surprisingly) so warm and sunny! Although admittedly, nothing beats spring time walking through my neighbouring hood of Notting Hill – so many pretty houses, boutiques and cafes…

Playing safe and staying tonal with my outfits is nothing new; my go-to weekend look being skinny jeans, a fitted jumper and some kicks (never fails). I always like to pick it up in the way I accessorise – here I am supporting my native Scandinavia with these awesome new sunglasses from Swedish accessory brand Triwa; so understated, yet super chic! Another go-to pair for the upcoming summer season.

WEEKLY FAVOURITES

March 22, 2015
5things

Better late than never! Here is what I have been loving, wearing and coveting this week…

1. I adore my new classic Topshop suede heels – they’re the perfect height and shape; comfortable yet chic! Even though they’re relatively high (to my standard) – they are really suitable for day-to-night dressing, with the classic and versatile shape (such a good price too!).

2. This CC Cream from Bobbi Brown is an every-day colour corrector treatment to even out your complexion, neutralise any redness and brightening the skin. The SPF helps prevent any future signs of dark spots, and suitable for all skin types and tones. I have been using it either on its own or blended in with my regular foundation.

3. The weather turned cold again this week and with a lot of writing and deadlines, I have been making guilt-free hot chocolate (see recipe here), using this delicious Raw Cacao Powder. I promise you, it is so good.

4. This multi-purpose wonder balm from Dr. PAWPAW is one of my beauty must-haves! It works as a skin protector, moisturiser, for chapped lips, broken skin, for sun burn during the summer and any skin irritations. I even use it as a hair conditioner when I am travelling! Made from fermented PawPaw which is a remedy with natural healing qualities, its also fragrance free and 100% British (I love supporting local beauty brands).

5. I have been looking high and low after a quirky, yet neutral looking salt and pepper set. These ones from the amazing interior designer Jonathan Adler (similar version here), are so perfect and fits straight into the style of our home (the husband even approved).

Wishing you all a fabulous Sunday!

InStyle Magazine’s Best Beauty Buys 2015

March 20, 2015
bestbeautybuys-5

You all know by now I am a beauty addict… I am always on-top of the latest beauty releases, researches and trends. When that said, I like to keep my routine consistent (as I talk about in this post), but making sure I change up the products I use every 2-3 months. I am quite lucky in the sense that my skin is very normal and (fortunately) adapts to just about all types of skin and make-up brands.

When that said, I have my firm favourites (there is a lot) – a mixture of classic industry icons prevailing season after season, and some new kids on the block.  InStyle Magazine recently revealed their Best Beauty Buys for 2015, some of which are already long-standing favourites – and others I had never tried previously. The world of beauty is overwhelming at times – there are so many products and brands out there, all promising you natural glow, long lashes, diminished lines and bright skin…. Following already tried-and-tested award winners selected by make-up artists, facialists, hairstylists, dermatologists and nail technicians – certainly helps filter out the good from the bad. With over 105 winners (phew!), here are some of my personal favourites from the InStyle awards…

bestbeautybuys-1

1. Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask

Sure, the price tag on this is pretty hefty (to say the least) but in my opinion, its worth every penny! Enriched with anti-aging active ingredients, this mask from Sisley is filled with vitamins, amino acids, Trace elements and Shea butter – making a beautiful concoction for toning, revitalising, enhancing radiance and luminosity, nourishing and plumping the skin. When my face is feeling dull and dry, or I am going through a tired spell (especially during the cold winter months), I use this face mask 2-3 times a week for a good few weeks, to revitalise and brighten my complexion. It really does what it says on the tin (hence why I am justifying the price), and I only ever use it when my skin really needs an extra boost, meaning it keeps for longer.

2. Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance

I have tried so many primers before and after this one from Laura Mercier, but I always seem to go back! It really enhances that natural glow with the universal pearl tint (suitable for all skin types), smoothes, protects and minimises imperfections. Applied prior to my regular foundation (make sure you let it sink in first!) – it leaves my make-up looking fresh and smooth all-day! This is one of the few products which is always with me when I am on-the-go.

3. Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector

This is a relatively new product that I only recently tried, and love it so far! I suffer from patches of uneven skin tone, pigmentation and dark spots – effects from sun damage (caused by years living in Australia and Barcelona, using too low factor!). Luckily, I am older and wiser now – but the discolourations are still there. I have found that this Corrector from Clinique has minimised what was already there, and hopefully as its enriched with anti-oxidants, it will prevent future darkening.

4. Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector

I am all about taking care of the eye area – its so important as its such a fragile and thin part of your face which is more sensitive and prone to lines. I suffer with my sleep from time to time, which means my eye area often feels quite puffy in the mornings; this lightweight and cooling Corrector from Clinique, really brightens, plumps and re-freshes my tired-looking eyes.

5. bareMinerals Original SPF15 Foundation

If you’re looking for a lightweight, natural and pure foundation (with SPF), bareMinerals is definitely the one, being a classic industry favourite for years. It really gives you that natural luminous glow, feels like cream yet buffs on like silk. Although it does cover up and gives you that smooth finish – it´s not an intense or thick foundation; hence why I would personally recommend it more for day-time use (all depending on what you´re after!).

6. Guerlain Terracotta Moisturising Bronzing Powder

Another product I have been using for years, and although I have tried many other bronzers in-between – this one from Guerlain is by far the best one! I love that it leaves your skin super soft and gives you a really natural and smooth-looking tan. Its also super lightweight, meaning its pretty much with me wherever I go!

7. Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara

Lashes has always been ´my thing` (maybe a bit too much in the past) – but I definitely like them long and full-bodied, which help brighten and enhance my eyes. When it comes to mascara – I am not very loyal, and I like to change it up a lot! I have many favourites on the high street – but the one that has prevailed for me within the more higher end of the price scale, is this iconic Hypnôse mascara from Lancôme. Firstly, it lasts for ages, it doesnt leave your lashes heavy or clumpy – yet it makes them really long and thick (I tend to do 2-3 layers – depending on the occasion).

And there you have it! Obviously, there were a lot of other amazing products in the final list I really love – but these are definitely some of my stand-outs! Which are your favourites?

TRANSEASONAL

March 18, 2015
spring-8

Its the changing of the seasons, Spring is in the air and planning for the coming months has commenced. I for one cant wait to do a wardrobe re-haul and changeover, set goals for new challenges, plan holidays, spring clean at home and start afresh! No better feeling. On the sartorial front, its at that slightly tricky transeasonal stage, where ones still buried in the faux fur (but braving flats and reaching for the bare legs).

Come on Spring, know you want to.

Tommy Hilfiger Peoples Place Originals Biker Jacket & Top / Cheap Monday JeansLulu Guiness Bag / Saint Laurent Sunglasses / Adidas Shoes / Triwa WatchA selection of jewellery by Bijoux by Desi F, Astley Clarke, Muru & Stephen Einhorn

Sorry for the lack of update over the weekend guys – I am back in full force though, feeling re-charged and geared up for the looming Spring months!

I have literally been living in my trusted Adidas Stan Smith for the past month, which I have found go with just about everything; especially my new amazing new leather biker jacket from Tommy Hilfiger’s new collection Peoples Place Originals – a collection focused on rock-and-roll staples, concert t-shirts and distressed denim. Here I am mixing an overall edgy look with more feminine and glossy accessories, keeping the look relaxed, yet chic. I must admit – although I recently confessed my love for my winter parka investment – it does feel nice not having to be so layered up!

THE NAVY PARKA

March 12, 2015

Sandro Parka (shop parkas here) / Y.A.S Jumper / Cheap Monday Jeans / & Other Stories Boots (similar here) / Saint Laurent Bag & Sunglasses

Yeah, my love for the luxe puffa continues. Sure, spring is just around the corner, but Ive still been keeping warm in this amazing parka style from Sandro, which will no doubt be a firm favourite for seasons to come – totally worth the investement. I opted for the navy version, which in my opinion is so classic, and my go-to every day staple item for casual chic (which you all know I am big fan of).

Now, luxe puffas aside – I am looking ahead to warmer climates (who isn’t?). My 2-week holiday to L.A this summer is too far away; my pale skin needs some solid Vitamin D before that! Any suggestions for Easter escapes?

Have a great Thursday!

AT HOME WITH BIRCHBOX x HABITAT

March 10, 2015
birchboxhabitat-3

You all know by now that I am a beauty-holic. Which subsequently explains my long-standing obsession with monthly subscription service Birchbox – where one gets to sample a carefully curated and edited mini versions of a products every month, before deciding to invest in the full-size version! Brilliant concept. My other obsession is interior. I can spend hours trawling through shops and online to get my latest inspiration and fix. So, when Birchbox and one of my favourite interior stores, Habitat, teamed up to collaborate on this months beauty box and asked me to share my daily beauty routine at home – it was a no-brainer.

THE BOX

The box is appropriately named DO TRY THIS AT HOME, where they’re celebrating makeovers of all types; whether it’s with your beauty regime or your at-home furnishings and decoration. What better time that to start that in March – the first month of spring, where we are looking to renew, renovate and refresh our skin, body and home!

MY FACE & MAKE-UP ROUTINE

Here are some of my go-to skincare beauty essentials from Birchbox – from serums, primers, mascara, skin hydration, eyes, brows, lips, and more. With everything, I like to mix up my skincare and make-up routine on a regular basis, depending on seasonal needs and occasion; but the core steps always remain the same.

birchboxhabitat birchboxhabitat-2 birchboxhabitat-1

1. CLEANSE, TONE, HYDRATE & MOISTURISE

This is super important. I never go to bed without cleansing, no matter how tired I am. Toning is equally as important, as it takes away any extra residue, make-up and dirt (unfortunately a very common factor living in a big city!). Then I always layer on with moisture using a serum, moisturiser and finish of with a hydrating spritz. My routine is the same both day and night!

Step 1 Cleanse: Yes To Cucumbers Soothing Daily Gentle Facial Cleanser

Step 2 Tone: Embryolisse Micellar Lotion

Step 3 Hydrate: Dr. Jart + Most Moist Water Act Skin Mist

Step 4 Moisturise (serum): Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum

Step 5 Moisturise (cream): Caudalie Vinexpert Broad Spectrum SPF15 Radiance Day Cream and Laura Mercier Moisture Creme Broad SPF15

Step 6 Re-fresh & Hydrate: Caudalie Beauty Elixir

birchboxhabitat-11birchboxhabitat-13

2. SET THE FOUNDATION

For day-time I go for a natural and fresh look. I always make sure I prime, which protects and maintains your make-up (and adds that glow we’re all after!). Covering and touching up and adding some colour to my skin is essential (I don’t suit the pale look – trust me!).

Step 1 Prime: Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance

Step 2 Conceal & Cover: Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer & Gerda Spillmann Bio-Fond Cream Foundation

Step 3 Colour: Wild About Beauty Bronzer & Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip & Cheek Stain

birchboxhabitat-4 birchboxhabitat-5

3. DEFINE & COMPLETE

I am all about long (real) lashes and defined brows! This is a must for me to complete my look; it opens my eyes and enhances my features. For a natural finish I keep the colours and amount toned down, and for evenings my go-to look is the smoky eye.

Step 1 Eyes: ModelCo Eyeshadow Trio Palette & Lord & Berry Forever Black Liquid Eyeliner

Step 2 Brows: Lord & Berry Magic Brow

Step 3 Lashes: Laura Mercier Faux Lash Mascara

Step 3 Lips: Benefit Benebalm Hydrating Tinted Lip Balm

And there you have it guys!

MY DRESSING TABLE

Having a dressing table has literally changed everything for me (for the better, obvs.). I have never really had the space in previous properties, but since moving to our new place which is so much bigger – I was excited to finally get one! It makes my mornings so much easier, where everything is stored in one place – my make-up, creams, perfumes, hair tools, nail polishes, and more. I adore this minimal and clean style in natural wood from Habitat (which slotted straight into the style of our second bedroom) – with the oversized mirror (yay) and the side drawers to keep everything tidy! LOVE IT.

This week has been crazy, with the before aforementioned launch of my new wellness site Sustain The Glow, on top of meetings after meetings – and trying to have a social life! All good though, I love being busy and on-the-go! When that said, its important to wind down sometimes and reflect, and enjoy the little joys in life…

1. During busy times, it´s important to stay positive, keep focused and reflect on what you are doing, and what your plans are! The Daily Greatness Journal has really helped me do this. With a diary, goal and appointment planner, and daily tools and reminders – this is such a great concept! Not only to keep you organised, but with daily steps and tips of meditation & visualisation, intentions, dream journaling, gratitude, self-awareness questions, exercise, inspired actions & inspiration… LOVE it.

2. Bobbi Brown lipsticks – because a red or pink lippy can add so much to a relaxed outfit! I don’t leave the house with at least one of them.

3. Byredo Bibliothèque is my go-to scented candle, which makes me relax, smile and feel so good – its so lovely.

4. I adore my new gold coin bracelet from British brand Muru – beautiful on its own or stacked with my other gold chains and watch. I told you its the small things that make me smile!
